Melvia W. Richard, beloved mother, sister, grandmother and friend, passed away peacefully on October 14, 2025, at the age of 76. Melvia was born on February 4, 1949, and dedicated 39 years of her life to serving as a Dietary Specialist at Methodist Main Hospital in Houston, where she was well-respected for her commitment and compassion.
A student of Sam Houston High School, Melvia developed a cheerful personality that illuminated the lives of all who knew her. She had an admirable passion for conversation and cherished every moment spent with her family. In her spare time, Melvia found joy in walking and engaging in crossword puzzles.
She is survived by her loving children: Eddie Fisher, Jr., Cloid (Demetria) Richard, Douglas (Keisha) Richard, Vertice (Lester) Johnson, Nevia Fisher, Chiffon Thompson, and Lukreshia Headspetch. Additionally, Melvia leaves behind her brothers David (Ruthie) Johnson, Rayford (Minnie) Johnson, and Robert Goodall, as well as her sister Mary Goodall. The legacy she created also includes her 24 cherished grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and 8 great-great-grandchildren, all of whom will remember her warmth and love.
Melvia was predeceased by her husband, Daniel Richard, whose memory she carried in her heart, as well as her parents, L.C. Goodall and Maggie Wortham; and siblings, John Patrick and Leola Fulton.
Special thanks to her dedicated grandson and caregiver, Drayton Archie, Jr. aka "The Big Red Man" for his unwavering patience and compassion. Also a special thank you to her granddaughter, Jaleshia Archie, whose gracious and thoughtful decorations made every family gathering memorable.
A visitation to honor Melvia's life will be held on October 25, 2025, from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Grace Funeral Home, 4910 Willowbend Blvd, Ste E, located in Houston, Texas. Family and friends are invited to come together to celebrate the remarkable life of this extraordinary woman who touched so many lives with her kindness and joyous spirit. She will be greatly missed but fondly remembered by all who had the privilege to know her.
