Leonard (Lynn) Joseph Johnson, Jr., a man of boundless energy, infectious joy, and an adventurous spirit, passed away on August 17, 2025, at Sugar Land Methodist Hospital in Sugar Land, Texas. Born on February 7, 1956, in the vibrant 7th Ward of New Orleans, Louisiana, Leonard was the beloved son of Leonard Joseph Johnson, Sr. and Lula Johnson. His life was a testament to hard work, passion, and a deep love for family, community, and the simple joys of life.

From an early age, Leonard’s industrious nature shone brightly. At just five years old, he began working alongside his father in the family business, L.J. Trucking and Landfill, a fact he always reminded his family of every time they gathered. This early experience instilled in him a strong work ethic. After moving to Houston, Texas. In the late 1980s, Leonard earned his Journeyman Electrician License, a testament to his determination and skill. However, his entrepreneurial spirit couldn’t be contained; he eventually founded his own trucking company, aptly named L.J. Trucking.

Leonard’s personality was as bold and colorful as the Harley Davidsons he rode in his teenage years. Known for his loud bikes, long feather earring, and solo rides through the neighborhood, he was a figure of admiration and intrigue. Friendly and approachable, Leonard had a way of making everyone feel welcome, whether through his warm smile or his knack for storytelling.

A man of many passions, Leonard was a collector at heart. His home was a living museum filled with treasures that told the story of his life. From antique furniture reminiscent of his childhood home in New Orleans, to intricate ship models inspired by the vessels he watched sail down the Mississippi River, every piece held a memory. His yard, dotted with classic cars and old-school trucks, showcased his love for all things vintage. Among his prized possessions was a classic Mercedes, a car he cherished so deeply that it accompanied him wherever life took him.

Leonard’s home was more than just a collection of items; it was a reflection of his soul. Visitors were greeted by toy dump trucks turned into plant pots, a nod to his trucking roots. Inside, Queen Anne furniture and bulky couches told the story of a man who embraced both tradition and comfort. Models of motorcycles and ships adorned every corner, each symbolizing his adventurous spirit and love for life.

Though Leonard never married or had children, his heart was always open to his family. He was a devoted brother, uncle, and friend, always ready to lend a helping hand or share a piece of advice. He brought joy to every family gathering, leading New Orleans-style second lines with unmatched enthusiasm. It’s been said, “You can take him out of New Orleans, but you can’t take New Orleans out of him.”

His laughter, stories, and love for life made him the life of every party, and his presence will be deeply missed.Leonard is preceded in death by his father, Leonard Joseph Johnson, Sr., and brothers-in-law Raymond Sheppard, Byron Cleggett, and Milan Cloud. He is survived by his loving mother, Lula Temper, and stepfather, Robert Temper; his devoted siblings, Gloria Rivarde, Nadine Sheppard, Valerie Cleggett , Angela Cloud, Stacy Smith, and Leonard Johnson (Andrea). He also leaves behind other siblings, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and countless friends who were touched by his kindness and zest for life.

Leonard lived life to the fullest, embracing every moment with joy and gratitude. His legacy is one of love, laughter, and a reminder to cherish the simple pleasures in life. He will be remembered as a man who truly embodied the spirit of New Orleans—vibrant, resilient, and full of heart. Rest in peace, Leonard. You will be forever loved, missed, and never forgotten.
