George Edward McKinnie, a beloved husband, father, son, grandfather, uncle and friend, was born on September 30, 1937, in Sommerville, Tennessee. He passed away on November 11, 2025, in Houston, Texas, leaving behind a rich legacy of love and dedication to his family and community.
George dedicated a significant part of his life to his career at General Motors, where he started in 1967 as an arch welder. His unwavering commitment and hard work culminated in his role as a supervisor by the time he retired in 1997. Beyond his professional achievements, George had a passion for barbeques, enjoyed music and enjoyed hosting parties for family and friends. He was a fan of the blues and enjoyed listening to artists like BB King, Anita Ward, and The Commodores, which brought joy and rhythm to his life.
In 1968, George married his dear wife, Debberiel Lisa Lounzie, and together they shared 57 wonderful years of marriage, filled with laughter, love, and countless memories. George was a true family man who cherished every moment spent with relatives, often attending family reunions and making an effort to keep the bonds strong. He enjoyed visiting with family and friends, showcasing his warm personality and generous spirit.
He was also known for his expertise and having a side gig assisting at a body shop where he painted cars, showcasing both his talent and creativity. Beyond his work, George had a deep appreciation for baseball and enjoyed playing with remote control cars. He even dabbled in playing the guitar, further illustrating his love for music and his desire to try new things. In his younger years, he enjoyed playing tennis and baseball, he was a well-rounded sports person.
George is survived by his loving wife, Debberiel Lisa McKinnie; daughters Carla McKinnie and Krystal McKinnie; bonus daughter Lisa Lounzie; grandsons Christopher McKinnie, Denzel McGee, Darius McGee, Da'Marquis McGee, Ke'Wan McKinnie, and bonus grandson Sterling Lounzie; bonus granddaughters Ashley Hardy and Bre'Nea Hardy; great-granddaughter Kyre Neal; bonus great-grandsons Karter and Nova Kyiel Roberson; and his pet dog, Picasso. His spirit will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
He is preceded in death by his sons, Sammie McKinnie and Ke'Wan Edward McKinnie; his daughter Le'Keisha McKinnie; his parents, Addie Lean Bills McKinnie and Herman McKinnie; and his sister Mattie Louise Cavin.
A viewing will be held at The Collective, 12401 S. Post Oak Rd, Houston, TX 77045 on November 24, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by the funeral service from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM. The burial will take place from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, at Houston Memorial Gardens, 2426 Cullen Blvd, Pearland, Texas 77581. Family and friends can gather for the repass which will be held from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM. The location for the repass is The Collective, 12401 S Post Oak Rd, Houston, TX 77045.
